Safer, less time-consuming start-ups

At Les 4 vents farm, the heifers are all bred to join the herd or to be sold for dairy production. They receive Delta® Soluvox from birth for the duration of their housing in individual pens, i.e. 3 weeks. David, in charge of the calves, chose to use Delta® Soluvox to ensure safe start-ups and reduce the time spent caring for sick calves.

“We had a lot of difficult start-ups. We often switched to 3 meals a day to try and recover calves that had suffered from diarrhoea, for example,” says David. “Overall, I was spending too much time on the calves.”

To tackle this problem, his technician advised him to give Delta® Soluvox, over the first 3 weeks.

Since September 2016, when the product was first used, the breeder has had 148 calvings, with only 4 calves dying from various causes.
