DELTAVIT committed to the new recycling scheme for animal nutrition packaging

Every year in France, 10% of products sold in the animal nutrition sector are marketed with packaging. Their use by breeders results in 10,000 tonnes of empty packaging to be recycled. To meet this major environmental challenge in our sector, DELTAVIT has joined forces with VALORALIM to manage this waste in a responsible manner.

Our commitment to VALORALIM

In order to recycle this packaging efficiently and give it a second life, on 1st July, the animal nutrition sector launched VALORALIM, a new packaging collection and recycling scheme, run by the three animal nutrition trade unions (AFCA-CIAL, La Coopération Agricole Nutrition Animale, SNIA) in partnership with ADIVALOR.

By By 2028, VALORALIM aims to collect 60% of empty packaging from animal nutrition products used in livestock farming, and to recycle 80% of it. VALORALIM will help to meet the specific challenges we face in our businesses and among our livestock farming customers in terms of reducing our environmental impact
VALORALIM’s mission is to collect eco-taxes from marketers (who are responsible for products and their labelling) in order to finance the programme for collecting and recycling empty packaging for these products, which is entrusted to ADIVALOR (the national eco-organisation responsible for managing waste from the agricultural supply industry).

As a marketer of its products, DELTAVIT supports this initiative by joining the VALORALIM network, thereby anticipating the regulatory obligation known as “extended producer responsibility” (EPR), which will become mandatory by 1st January 2025 for animal feed packaged and sold in livestock farming: raw materials, additives, premixes, compound feed.

Collection and recovery of packaging

Since 1ᵉʳ October 2023, the first collections have begun for DELTAVIT packaging. These collections, organised by ADIVALOR, will initially concern the packaging with the largest volume: paper and/or plastic bags, big-bags, buckets, cans and plastic tanks. In order to identify the packaging concerned, DELTAVIT products bearing the specific ADIVALOR pictogram on their labels (see logo opposite) will be sorted and dropped off by breeders at the collection points nearest to their farms, then recovered via the ADIVALOR programme for recycling. Packages without this pictogram won’t be collected.

This collaborative initiative between companies in the animal nutrition sector (manufacturers, suppliers, distributors) and breeders is fully in line with DELTAVIT’s commitments to take action on a daily basis to reduce the environmental impact of livestock farming and contribute to its decarbonisation.
