Decrease in forage NDF: weakening of the cellulolytic bacterial population in the rumen and a significant increase in the risk of acidosis. This reduction creates a <strong>severe energy deficit<\/strong> and accounts for 50% of the drop in milk production. The combination of acidosis and weight loss leads to a high risk of lameness (degeneration of the fat pad, inflammation).   <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A very significant increase in a<\/strong> cow\u2019s <strong>energy requirements<\/strong>, primarily due to a rise in maintenance requirements of up to 50% and the systemic inflammation caused by heat stress. The latter has a very detrimental impact on immunity, reproduction, and more\u2026 <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A decrease in milk production<\/strong> will lead to lower protein requirements and an energy-to-protein imbalance: increased urea levels, risk of inflammation. Unless the robot settings are adjusted, the amount of concentrate will decrease because it is linked to milk production. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12 heading\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">4 STEPS TO TAKE DURING A HEAT WAVE:<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12 heading\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>1. Provide water for the animals<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile is-vertically-aligned-center\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 34%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\"><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12 paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Provide additional water stations. To minimize disruptions to electrolyte balance, an \u201cisotonic\u201d beverage is recommended. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deltavit.com\/en\/product\/deltalitol\/\"><strong>Deltalitol<\/strong> <\/a>: 100 ml\/body weight\/day<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deltavit.com\/en\/product\/hydraplus\/\"><strong>Hydraplus<\/strong> <\/a>: 100 g\/LW\/day in the TMR (Total Mixed Ration)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n<div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12 paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In practice, 16 cm of trough length and 1 trough for every 20 cows are recommended.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12 paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be careful with water troughs located at the robot exit that have a pre-cooler! If the water flow rate is linked to the milk flow rate: A drop in milk production and an increase in water demand = an empty trough. In hot weather, calves can lose significant amounts of water due to increased respiration and heat dissipation. Water requirements can increase by <strong>50 to 100%<\/strong> under heat stress conditions.  <br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><strong>Water alone is often not enough.<\/strong><\/strong><br\/>Calves under heat stress lose not only water but also essential electrolytes (sodium, potassium, chloride) needed for hydration, nervous system function, and acid-base balance. In addition, heat stress increases oxidative stress, which can impair immunity and performance. <br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><strong>Diarrhea makes the situation much worse<\/strong><\/strong><br\/>When diarrhea occurs in hot weather, water and electrolyte losses increase dramatically. A calf with diarrhea can <strong>lose 4 to 8 liters of fluid per day<\/strong>, which quickly leads to dehydration, reduced milk intake, slowed growth, weakness, and an increased risk of disease. <br\/><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Why use a specific moisturizing solution?<\/strong><br>A high-quality, milk-soluble hydration solution, rich in electrolytes and antioxidants, provides:\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Water to Replenish Hydration<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Electrolytes to help replenish losses<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Energy sources to support recovery<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Antioxidants to reduce the negative effects of oxidative stress and support immunity<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deltavit.com\/en\/product\/hydraplus\/\"><strong>Hydraplus<\/strong> <\/a>: 50 g per calf per day, to be distributed throughout the feedings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:15px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12 heading\">\n<h5 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>2. Preparing the feed at the trough<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12 paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">First and foremost, it is important to encourage feed intake. Feed the ration in the evening. <strong>Adding sugar<\/strong> will have a <strong>positive impact on feed intake<\/strong>, <strong>reduce selective feeding<\/strong>, and <strong>stimulate bacterial activity in the rumen<\/strong> without increasing the risk of acidosis: target 5%. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deltavit.com\/en\/deltagreen-2\/\"><strong>Deltagreen<\/strong><\/a> is a highly palatable liquid solution rich in sugars with a diverse fermentation profile designed to stimulate ruminal activity. Ensuring Healthy <strong>Rumen Function: <\/strong><\/strong> <strong>Minimizing the Risk of Acidosis<\/strong><\/h5>\n<\/div><\/div><div class=\"row\"><div class=\"col-12 paragraph\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Heat waves will rapidly increase the risk of ruminal acidosis. Acidosis will affect the cellulolytic flora and promote intestinal inflammation. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Distribute <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deltavit.com\/en\/product\/acidoline\/\">Administer<\/a><\/strong> at a dose of 100 to 200 g\/livestock unit\/day for the duration of the heat wave: reduces the risk of acidosis.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Aim for a BACA between 350 and 400 meq\/kg DM<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Live yeast will have little impact over a short period of use when immediate effectiveness is needed.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ensure safe starch fermentation in the rumen with <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ccpa.com\/fr\/produit\/vivactiv\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amiviv&#8217;.<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div style=\"height:16px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images
